Review -
best place for breakfast in Waikiki. Not only does it have a terrific view of all of Waikiki (clear to Diamond Head), but the food is fabulous and at fantastic prices (especially for Waikiki). Breakfast includes a great selection of pancakes (banana, mac nut, pineapple, even coconut) and eggs (from crab cake eggs Benedict to a mushroom-spinach-cheese omelet). Dinner is romantic. The second floor restaurant is decorated in a 1930's Hawaii waterfront home theme with touches like the ohia log bar, a hula doll collection, slate flooring and lauhala-line soffited ceilings. Signature dinner dishes at this beachside bistro include Hawaiian ceviche, fire grilled ono, screamin' sesame opah and a nightly collection of specials.

Frommer's Review
Tapas, or small plates, have recently hit the restaurant scene in Hawaii, and no one does them better than Chef Hiroshi Fukui. For 8 years he was at the helm of L'Uraku, but in 2004 he opened this restaurant (along with Hawaii's only master sommelier, Chuck Furuya, and manager, Cheryle Gomez), a fusion of European and Asian cuisine. The fabulous results mean that foodies will want to sample several items off the menu. Good thing that the staff recommends three dishes per person. The small plates offer a range of tastes from the simple and straightforward spinach salad, spiced tuna in a cucumber boat, or shrimp chawanmushi soup, to the more complex -- both in taste and in texture -- soft shell crab ooze (kabocha puree, wilted spinach and ginger with lemon jelee) or seared scallops (with bacon takana ragout), to the most complicated crab-stuffed Kona lobster tail (with sauteed beets and microherbs) or seared foie gras (with sweet miso, grilled eggplant, and creamy yuzu vinaigrette). Go with as many people as possible so you can sample more items. Try to hold out for dessert, a delicious green tea creme brulee, a wicked chocolate cake with chocolate ooze, and a great panna cotta.

This popular industrial-style plate-lunch haven is busier than ever since it moved to the trendy Ward Centre in March 2000, with an expanded concept that includes dinner service. The trademark Styrofoam plates, warehouse ambience, and home-style cooking remain, only now there's more dining space and, occasionally, adequate Ward Centre parking. The menu, which changes every 3 to 4 months, includes a seared ahi sandwich with tobiko (flying-fish roe) aioli; the signature charbroiled ahi steak; sandwiches; beef stew; five-spice shoyu chicken; the very popular meatloaf; and other multiethnic entrees.

New York Times Review
At this busy restaurant the black bean clams have a kick and the tofu pot stickers have groupies. Vegetarian choices abound, and even traditional Chinese offerings like curried Singapore noodles and honey walnut shrimp, are tastier — and healthier — than the norm.
Frommer's Review
Ignore the decor: no, not the usual lack of decor that Chinese restaurants affect, the interior design here reminds me of a French bistro with an overhanging roof like you are eating on the back porch of a small place in Provence. No matter, the food here is "simple and healthy" (their motto) and authentically Chinese (Northern, Canton, and Hong Kong style). Our picks are the Shanghai noodles with stir-fried veggies, the walnut shrimp, and the butterfish in black bean sauce. The menu is eclectic and offers some interesting selections you don't often see. The service is not only friendly (a rarity in Chinatown) but the wait help are quite knowledgeable about the dishes. Yes, you can order take out, but even more unique (for Chinatown) they have parking in the back!
